Mimosa is a prominent hybrid strain crafted by Symbiotic Genetics, emerging in late 2017 to early 2018. Its name is inspired by the famous Mimosa brunch cocktail, reflecting its sweet orange aroma and sparkling citrus flavor. The breeders aimed to create a strain with a distinct citrus terpene profile that was also excellent for hash production and commercially viable.
Mimosa is a cross between Clementine, a bright, citrus-forward Sativa, and Purple Punch, an Indica known for its sweetness and beautiful purple hues. This combination allowed Mimosa to inherit the best traits from both parents; Clementine contributes its clear orange notes, while Purple Punch provides sweetness and the appealing purple coloration often seen in the buds.
Since its release, Mimosa quickly gained popularity for its striking appearance and impressive flavor profile. The strain has received several accolades, including 2nd place in the Sativa category at the 2018 High Times Cannabis Cup in Santa Rosa, California, and 2nd place for Best Sativa at the 2019 Karma Cup. It also secured awards at the Clouds in the City Cup and Highlife Cup in 2021.
